Punjab primary school teachers move HC to get fifth pay commission

GURDASPUR: Punjab ETT and Primary Teachers unions have moved Punjab and Haryana High court to get new pay scales recommended by the fifth Pay Commission with effect from January,1, 2006 whereas the Punjab government in its order had decided to implement the new grades from October 1, 2011.
Punjab Elementary Teachers union president Harjinder Pal Singh said ,while the Punjab fifth Pay Commission had recommended that ETT and Primary school teachers should be given basic pay grade of 10300 from the above mentioned date , flouting the guidelines of the commission, the Education department is bent upon depriving the teacher what is due to them .
Since all talks between the teachers union and the concerned authorities have failed to get justice to ETT and primary teachers union, we have filed a writ petition in the HC, said Gurdaspur Primary teachers union general secretary Ashwani Fajjupur . ' "We are hopeful to get relief soon as the primary teachers are not being underpaid and not been given their due ", said senior union leader Lakhwinder Singh Sekhwon on Monday .
