How To Drastically Improve Your Windows System Performance Using msconfig

This small tutorial would help you drastically improve your system performance . A lot of people always keep saying that their system is slowing down and it takes a lot of time to boot up and it also responds slowly at times . Well one common thing i've noticed with all these people is that they load their computer with TOOOOOOOOOOO much software . SOme of them they barely use , some of them they didnt even know was on their computer . It's always good to have the basic minimal software installed in your pc so that it runs quickly and responds fast . Now one of the most simple and effective ways to improve your system performance apart from removing junk software is by using the msconfig tool in windows to uncheck certain programs which need not startup when windows starts up. So here's a small tutorial on this :

What happens in most cases is that most of the applications that you install , be it winamp, yahoo messenger, quicktime ,adobe etc etc etc All of them if you notice get launched automatically as soon as your computer boots . Im sure you'd notice the quicktime icon in the taskbar or even yahoo messenger popping up when windows loads . Now all of this and many more programs are launched when windows starts up . Now you definetly dont need all of these programs to startup when windows starts up . You could launch them separately when you need to use them . So by allowing the programs to startup when windows starts up , you are slowing down your system as you have loads of softwares running at the background when you are not even using them . So the best thing to do is to tell windows not to launch these programs automatically when your system starts . SO that way you have a lot of free RAM and CPU resources to use . So here's how you do it :

Step 1 : Click on Start and click on RUN ( or just press the windows symbol + R )

Step 4 : Now click on STARTUP
Step 5 : Now you should see a window similar to this , with loads of softwares which have tick mark to the left . This big list of softwares are the softwares which startup automatically when windows starts up

Step 6 : Now uncheck those softwares or applications which you dont need . For example : In the screenshot above i can uncheck winamp , quicktime , MSN messenger etc because i dont need them at startup . Dont get scared that you would screw up your system if you uncheck something important , incase something is not working after you unchecked some software, then just put the tick mark again the next time you boot .
Step 7 : Services like your antivirus software ( avg in this screenshot), any other drivers ( like asus drivers) etc should be left ticked as it is required for them to load at startup. Frankly speaking even if you uncheck all boxes and restart nothing will happen , your system would boot fine , infact it would boot real quick . So dont worry if you uncheck the wrong application , you could always tick it back the next time you boot.
Step 8 : Once your done unchecking the unwanted softwares . Click on Apply and Click on Close
Step 9 : You would then get an option to Restart Now Or Later . Thats your choice actually , but changes will take effect only after you restart.
Step 10 : Once rebooted , I'm sure it would make your system a lot lighter and a Lot more efficient!!

How To Increase Your Windows Xp PC Speed By Disabling Indexing

Almost everybody who uses windows xp looks for a way to improve its speed. There are a lot of ways to improve speed. One of the ways is to disable certain windows xp service that you dont use which can drastically improve system speed. One such service is windows xp search indexing. If you are a person who doesnt use the windows xp search that often then you can follow this.Even by disabling windows xp search indexing , you can still continue to search for files using the windows xp search although the searching would be a little bit slower. But by disabling windows xp search indexing you can improve your system speed as windows xp uses a lot of RAM and CPU resources for indexing each and every file whenever it has been modified , created , copied, removed etc. Thus almost every single step or move made by your pc involves indexing therefore a lot fo RAM and CPU power is used which could be used for some useufl applications instead. So here's how you disable or turn of indexing :

Turn Of Indexing :

Step 1 : Click on "My Computer" on your desktop and windows explorer should open

Step 2 : Now right click on on your hard drive( C: drive) and click on Properties

Step 4 : Click on Apply

Disable Indexing Service :
Since you no longer are going to use the indexing service you can disable it at startup itself

Step 1 : Click on The Start Menu and choose Run
