Firefox download counter passes one billion mark
Anyone that keeps the occasional eye on the Firefox download counter @FirefoxCounter on Twitter will not have failed to notice that it was ticking closer to the one billion mark.
Well that remarkable figure has now been passed and Firefox has been downloaded over billion times, which is quite an achievement as it demonstrates that not only is the product sound, it is also eating into the dominating Internet Explorer from Microsoft.
What some people may find strange is that there are an estimated one billion computers in the world today, so clearly that should mean that all computers are running Firefox, however the figure is for the total downloads of all versions.
Currently the market is split sixty per cent for Internet Explorer, thirty per cent for Firefox and the other ten per cent is made up with the other browsers.
