Micromax announces its first Android One Smartphone, The Canvas A1

New Delhi: After Karbonn launched it smartphone on Snapdeal, it is now time for Micromax to do the same. Post the Google announcement, the company has announced its first Android One smartphone called the Canvas A1 that will go on sale for a price tag of Rs 6499.

Indeed there is not much here under the hood as the handset like the Karbonn Sparkle V. This is because similar to the Karbonn smartphone, Micromax too had to design its handset under Google’s strict handset reference design guidelines. So clearly there are no differences here when it comes to the hardware; but just the external design that is looks different.

We get a 4.5 inch (854 x 480 pixel) IPS touch screen display
Inside, we have a 1.3 GHz quad-core (MediaTek) processor coupled with a Mali-400 GPU
Memory comes in the form of 1 GB of RAM and 4 GB of ROM that can be expanded up to 32 GB
The camera department consists of a 5 MP primary sensor with LED flash on the back and a 2 MP sensor up front
The smartphone comes with the usual radios like Wi-FI and Bluetooth and includes dual SIM slots as well
The Canvas A1 runs Android KitKat 4.4 and is powered by a 1700 mAh battery

Octa-Core, iberry Auxus Aura A1 launched for Rs 9990

There is no shortage of octa-core smartphones in India these days. With quad-core Android-powered smartphones beginning from the Rs 6500, it indeed makes little sense for spec-conscious Android fans to settle for anything less at a higher price.

'Emoji Movie' Finds Itself in Copyright Spat

Fortune's not exactly smiling ... or winking. Though emojis have been around since the late 1990s, the term wasn't copyrighted until 2013, when former video game executive Marco Husges staked his trademark claim. He doesn't own the rights to all actual emojis - which get more diverse today as Facebook rolls out new race and gender options for its emoticons - but he's got the word on lock, which could spell trouble for Sony project The Emoji Movie. The film's due in 2017, if Husges' threatened lawsuit doesn't derail production

Emojis Have Changed Communication for Good

They're not just another pretty face. Emojis, the modern equivalent of painting a buffalo on a cave wall, have only been around since the late '90s. Today, the pictographic language has nearly 2,000 officially recognized symbols. An emoji movie will hit theaters in 2017, and last year the Oxford English Dictionary named the kissy-face symbol its word of the year. Now Unicode has promised to roll out 11 new emojis focused on racial and gender diversity, adding female chefs, scientists and rock stars to the keyboard later this year.
