Edu dept to do away with SSA recruitment examinations

CHANDIGARH: The UT education department plans to change the criteria for the upcoming recruitment of teachers under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) scheme.
The department, no longer, plans to conduct a written test or an interview. The selection will now be done on the basis of marks secured by the candidates in central teaching eligibility test (CTET) and other academic qualifications.
Director school education Rubinderjit Singh Brar said, “We are going to hire teachers under SSA on merit-basis, which in turn will be prepared by compromising marks taken in graduation or post graduation.”
When asked if this was a result of the leak of exam paper for the recruitment of teachers in 2015, DSE denied, “We had thought of doing this 3-4 months ago, but it will be implemented from now.” The UT administration had recruited the teachers in 2015, but there is still a shortfall of teachers in Chandigarh and hence recruitment is the need of the hour. Chandigarh administration has also been hiring teachers from Punjab and Haryana on deputation.
