BONANZA FOR SCHOOL EDUCATION..UPGRADED 373 HIGH SCHOOLS TO SENIOR SECONDARY & 162 MIDDLE TO HIGH SCHOOLS: DR. CHEEMA.. CHIEF MINISTER BADAL ACCORDS APPROVAL

The Punjab Government has decided to go in for school up gradation at major level as part of the slew of measures to ensure quality education to the students of Government schools. The Chief Minister, Punjab, S. Parkash Singh Badal, in a big bonanza to the School Education sector, has accorded approval to upgrade 372 government high schools in the state to the senior secondary and 162 government middle schools to the high school level.
Disclosing this in a statement here today, the Education Minister, Punjab, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema said that the approval for the up gradation of schools has been given as per the promise made by Finance Minister, Punjab, S. Parminder Singh Dhindsa during budget speech in current year. The Education Minister while profusely thanking the Chief Minister and Finance Minister said that with the up gradation of schools at such a gigantic level for the first time, the number of students enrolling in the government schools would witness a vast increase due to the students from concerned areas now being able to get admission in nearby schools. He also informed that those schools have been up-graded who were fulfilling the required criteria regarding requisite space and number of students.
Divulging the details of up-graded schools district-wise, Dr. Cheema said that in 372 high schools up-graded to senior secondary level, 34 schools of Ludhiana, 25 of Amritsar, 11 each of Barnala, Faridkot and Kapurthala, 26 of Bathinda, 27 of Sangrur, 17 each of Fazilka, Gurdaspur, Mansa, 22 of Hoshiarpur, 7 of Fatehgarh Sahib, 18 of Ferozepur, 24 each of Jalandhar and Patiala, 15 each of Tarntaran and Moga, 9 of S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali), 8 each of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar and Pathankot, 10 of Ropar and 13 of Sri Muktsar Sahib are included.
Similarly, disclosing about 162 schools up-graded from middle to high school level, the Education Minister said that 15 schools of Bathinda, 14 of Amritsar, 11 each of Moga & Hoshiarpur, 9 each of Ludhiana, Patiala, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) and Ferozepur, 8 each of Gurdaspur, Fazilka and Kapurthala, 12 of Jalandhar, 13 of Sangrur, 6 each of Pathankot and Sri Muktsar Sahib, 5 of Mansa, 4 of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, 7 of Ropar, 3 of Faridkot and 1 of Tarntaran are included.
