168 principals lose powers to disburse funds

Faridkot, April 20

The School Education Department has withdrawn drawing and disbursing powers from 168 principals in government senior secondary schools with immediate effect.

The department has conveyed to the Circle Education Officers in Faridkot, Jalandhar and Nabha to make temporary arrangements by giving these powers to principals of government schools near these schools so that there was no hindrance in the release of salaries and other financial dealings in these schools.

The withdrawal of powers from 168 principals is the fallout of a legal tussle between degree and diploma-holder vocational masters in the government schools. The use of these powers by the ad hoc principals was not appropriate so these had been withdrawn, said G Vajralingam, Additional Principal Secretary, School Education. — TNS

Jalandhar, April 20

As many as 76 schools in the district have been running on a twin basis – from a single building. Seventyfive primary/middle schools are running from the same building, while one high-senior secondary school is being run from the same building in the district. Sources in the Education Department said data had likely been sought with a view to amalgamating the managements and staff of such schools, especially schools which were currently understaffed and could borrow teachers from their neighbours’ schools.

The report has been sought after the department sought a list of primary/middle, middle/high and high/senior secondary schools running from the same building. Meanwhile, there are no middle/high schools being run from the same building in the district.

The DEOs have received all primary/middle/high and senior secondary schools to inform of such schools running on their premises via email by April 20. The DEOs have further been asked to inform the department via email.DEO Harinder Pal said, “Collectively, there are 76 such school running from the same school building. While all these schools are functioning very smoothly, the data regarding the schools has been sent to the department as asked by it.”
