Punjab govt approves programme to provide potable water
PTI Apr 25,2012

Chandigarh, Apr 25 (PTI) The Punjab government has envisaged an ambitious programme costing Rs 962 crore to provide 100 per cent potable drinking water in all towns across the state. A decision to this effect was taken today during the first meeting of a High Powered Committee constituted under Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Fund (PMIDF) Act 2011 headed by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here, an official spokesman said. Sanctioning another instalment of Rs 350 crore for the completion of 100 per cent water supply facilities to various towns, Badal said that the state government had already provided Rs 306 crore under this project and assured that rest of the amount would also be provided soon. In another significant decision, the committee has approved to constitute a 'Designing and Planning Cell' comprising five renowned experts from the fields of Planning, Civil Engineering, Finance, Environment and Traffic to carry out the entire work of Municipal Infrastructure Development in a comprehensive manner. Taking part in the deliberations, Badal asked the officers of the Local Government Department that as he had already announced to provide 100 per cent basic amenities in terms of Water supply and Sewerage and Sewage Treatment Plants (STP), Roads and Slum Development/housing for Urban poor in all the towns at a cost of Rs 8,635 crore in next three years, this entire work of 100 per cent water supply should must be completed positively in two years period.

Drain water out of tank during vacation for some days. You can put some cholorine in water also. Drain the chlorine mixed water. All teachers are requested to take care of drinking water tanks/sources in schools as well as in homes.

First drain out all water. keep 3 to 4 buckets of water stock separately. get inside the tank and apply bleaching powder and rub the sides and bottom with brush. You cant stay longer inside as bleaching powder has strong smell and come out fast. Alternatively attach broom sick with a stick and clean by staying outside. Then pour the stored buckets water and drain out. pour more water until the smell of bleaching powder is removed. Then keep the tank open to Sunshine for few hours before filling the tank. The best way is to call the plumber to disconnect the outlet pipe so that the muddy- bleaching powder water does come thro your pipe lengths. and gets discharged on the open terrace floor itself. This valve can be re connected after the cleaning is over.
