HRD min to assess govt schools
13 Jun 2015
NEW DELHI: Government schools will soon be assessed on whether teachers use information technology while teaching, take classes regularly, are sensitive to the needs of students facing deprivation or to gender concerns, and on whether the school space is physically and psychologically safe for students.
The massive exercise, piloted by the Human Resource Development ministry with a vision to optimise performance of government schools, will annually reach out to 1.6-million schools across India. The HRD ministry is expected to unveil the evaluation and assessment model soon, and will request states to adapt it to their needs.
The assessment model, developed by National University of Educational Planning and Administration, will help schools assess themselves in seven different domains, each having between four and 19 core standards.
