The students, majority of them girls, later blocked the road near the school.
After getting a message about the school’s gate having been locked by students, block education officer (BEO) Roshan Lal reached the spot and tried to pacify the students and assured them that the matter would be resolved soon.
Notably, there is no district education officer (DEO) in Fatehabad at present and the Sirsa DEO holds the additional charge of the district.
Talking to mediapersons, village sarpanch Raj Kumar said, “During chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s rally in Ratia a few days ago, the village panchayat tried to meet the CM, but his security guards did not allow us to meet him. We met the DEO and the BEO several times, but in vain.”
Sonia Rani, Kavita and Divya, students of Class 10 said, “What is the use of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao programme when there are only 38 teachers, instead of the required strength of 78, in the school. As many as 40 posts are vacant. The science subject is very important, but there is no teacher of science in our school.”
Mansi, another student of Class 10, said, “We face a big problem as we have less teachers and more vacancies in the school.”
When contacted, Sirsa DEO Yagdatt Verma said, “We are facing such an acute problem of shortage of teachers due to frequent transfers. We have apprised the education minister about the issue and I am sure, the problem will be sorted out soon.”
