Sainik Welfare Dept to set up 6 computer training centres

CHANDIGARH: Sainik Welfare Department, Punjab has decided to set up six more training centers at Bathinda, Sangrur, Patiala, Ferozepur, Ludhiana and Kapurthala districts. These centers are in the process of obtaining govt affiliation from PTU Jalandhar.
It is presumed that around 1800 Ex-servicemen/ their wards will make use of these new centres. Disclosing this here today Brig Manjit Singh (Retd), Director Defence Services Welfare Punjab, informed that this training was initially commenced during 1994-95, as a supplementary training for the candidates undergoing Stenography Training Course at Jalandhar.
Owing to the excellent results of this Computer Training, separate courses of one year were started at Jalandhar and Faridkot from 1995-96. Simultaneously, action was initiated to get these courses approved by PTU Jalandhar. Motivated by the success of these courses, the State Govt included this course for release of regular funds under the Planned Scheme.
Gradual progress was made in expanding the sphere of computer education and by 2006-2007, seven more new Computer Training Centres were established at Amritsar, Jalandhar, Faridkot, Sri Mukatsar Sahib, Hoshiarpur, Roop Nagar and Chandigarh . All these training centers have been affiliated to PTU, Jalandhar.
Later two more centers were established at Fatehgarh Sahib and Gurdaspur. As many as 9000 candidates have received training in these centers and out of them approximately 5000 candidates have been absorbed in various Govt / Private Sector, Banks and other PSUs as regular employees.
Brig Manjit Singh (Retd) said that more and more Ex-servicemen fraternity and their wards would avail facilities of these training centers for better employment opportunities in future. Brig Manjit Singh (Retd) applauded the team of officers for their dedicated efforts for successful functioning of these centers.
