Income limit for poor students seeking admission in technical colleges raised
Now the students from families with annual income less than rs. 4.5 can avail the fee waiver scheme
 Chandigarh 17 June
 The Punjab Government has enhanced the annual income limit of poverty stricken sections from Rs. 2.5 lakh to Rs. 4.5 lakh in respect of their wards seeking admissions in the polytechnic colleges of state. Stating this here, Anil Joshi, Technical Education Minister said that the state government has taken this decision to facilitate the thousands of students from the rural belts of Punjab in order to ensure their admissions in Polytechnic Colleges under Fee Waiver Scheme. He also informed that keeping this in view the Punjab Government has also extended the date of submission of applications in Polytechnic Colleges from June 15 to June 25, so that the rural students can drive the utmost benefit from this scheme. The Minister said that the students, who have cleared their Joint Entrance Test can get direct admissions in the polytechnic colleges availing this facility of fee waiving as 2500 seats in the polytechnic colleges have been reserved across the state. He said that these seats would be filled under the fee waiving scheme of All India Council for Technical Education. Joshi said that under this scheme the students would have to pay only Rs. 5625 annually while the total fee is Rs. 27,625. He exhorted the students to avail this fee waiving scheme to make themselves self-employed and to start their own occupations. Joshi informed that students belong to Scheduled Castes having annual income less than Rs. 2.5 lakh will have to pay only Rs. 1100 as tuition fee for three years course, under this fee waiving scheme
