 AAP leaders held for protesting
Following chaotic scenes, Section 144 imposed outside Tihar Jail
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, May 21
Many activists of the AAP, including MLAs, senior leaders like Yogendra Yadav, Sanjay Singh, Manish Sisodia, Jarnail Singh and Rakhi Birla, were arrested following chaotic scenes created by them outside Tihar Jail this evening in protest against their leader Arvind Kejriwal's arrest in connection with a criminal defamation complaint filed by senior BJP leader Nitin Gadkari.

The protestors were arrested from opposite Tihar Jail and taken to another spot. The police have also imposed Section 144 outside the jail premises.

Clashes broke outside on gate number three of the jail. Leaders like Yogendra Yadav, Manish Sisodia were dragged by the police and several AAP supporters were also detained.

The police cordoned off the area which was condemned by the AAP leaders. "We were merely expressing our solidarity with Kejriwal. We were not causing any obstruction to the traffic or the security of Tihar," said Yadav.

Sisodia said, "We are sitting on the footpath and protesting and that is not wrong."

This comes after Gadkari, a former BJP president, had filed the case before Metropolitan Magistrate Gomati Manocha in Delhi in mid-February. He said that Kejriwal has tarnished his image.

Kejriwal had alleged that Gadkari was one of the most corrupt leaders of India following which the BJP leader had moved court.

The AAP leader refused to submit a personal bond of Rs 10,000 and will remain in judicial custody till May 23 when the court will take up the case again for hearing.
