Red beacons allowed atop vehicles of CM, cabinet ministers...!

Chandigarh, March 28, 2017: Contrary to the  decision of the Punjab cabinet, the government in the fresh order on Tuesday said the official vehicles of the Chief Minister and his ministers will have red beacons.
The order intimated for implementation to the State Transport Commissioner and ADGP (Traffic) says that beacon lights atop official vehicles will be prohibited except in the cases of Chief Justice and Judges of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chief Minister and his cabinet ministers.
Other vehicles allowed to have beacon lights included those of Fire Brigade, Emergency Services, Hospitals and ambulances.
Interestingly, the cabinet had, in its first meeting on March 18, taken the decision to do away with beacon lights atop vehicles of the elected representatives which symbolized VIP culture. Dissenting voices were heard initially from within the government which later, though reluctantly, fell in line.
Since the cabinet decision, the CM and ministers had discarded red beacons on their vehicles.
The latest order is a step towards time-bound implementation of the poll manifesto of the Congress by the government led by it in the form of Five-Year Work Programme 2017-2022.
