Names of four towns of Punjab changed

NEW DELHI: The names of four towns of Punjab had been changed following the approval by the Union Home Ministry. Following this, the Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar will now be called as Ajitgarh while Sunam town to be known as Sunam Udham Singh Wala.
 
The name of Nawanshahar has also been changed to Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar and Muktsar town will be called as Sri Muktsar Sahib.Besides this, the highest number of 17 towns were renamed in Kerala. The two twons of Odisha-Phulbani will be now called Baudh Kaudhamal and name of Sonapur has been changed to Subarnapur.
 
The Home Ministry approved the change of names in two towns in Madhya Pradesh. The two towns of state- Gotegaon and Mhow have been changed to Sridham and Ambedkar Nagar respectively. However, the Union Home Ministry did not accede to the proposal of renaming capital Bhopal as Bhojpal.
 
As far as towns of Kerala are conrened,the names of twons changes include  Thrissur (from Trichur), Kollam (Quilon), Alappuzha (Alleppey), Palakkad (Palghat), Kannur (Connanore), Thalassery (Tellicherry), Vadakara (Badagare), Paravur (Parur) and Aluva (Alwaye).
 
The other  towns renamed in Kerala are Devi Kulam (from Devi Colam), Kochi (Cochin), Changanassery (Changanachery), Chirayinkeezhu (Chirayinkil), Kodungallur (Cranagnore), Mannarkad (Mannarghat), Mananthavady (Mannantoddy) and Sulthan Bathery (Sultan's Battery).
