Haryana transport dept to recruit 1,500 drivers

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana transport department has initiated the process to recruit 1,500 drivers, 930 conductors and 951 technical staff so as to overcome the shortage of staff, transport minister Krishan Lal Panwar said on Monday.
Stating that the recruitment has been started following the talks held with representatives of various unions of the employees, he said 2,390 new drivers will be required in the department by March 31, 2017, for which recruitment process for 413 drivers had been completed.
With the recruitment of 1,500 new drivers, the department will have 1,913 new drivers and the problem of shortage of drivers will be resolved to some extent, he said and added that more drivers would be recruited by March 31, he added.
He said 300 new buses would be added to the fleet of the Haryana Roadways soon. The procedure to purchase these buses will be completed in the meeting of high power purchase committee scheduled to be held later this month. There is a target to include 1,000 new buses in the fleet by March 31.
