Says all school heads to make sure anti tobacco signage boards are installed inside & outside school premises

All Private & Govt. schools to strictly comply with COTPA: Nodal Officer

By January 9, school authorities to submit self declaration mentioning they are following COTPA & that anti smoking signage boards are installed

By Babushahi Bureau
Ludhiana, January 7, 2015: Following the instructions of Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana Mr Rajat Agarwal, the Nodal Officer-cum-Deputy DEO (Secondary) has issued strict instructions to heads of all government and private schools of Ludhiana district to ensure strict compliance of Anti-Tobacco signage boards under Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA). The Nodal Officer has also instructed the school heads that they must ensure boards and signage boards are installed inside, on each floor as well as outside the school campus.
Nodal Officer Mr. Ashish Kumar said that he has also directed that the students, staff and management committee members should be made aware about the ill effects of tobacco so that they don't fall prey to this drug.
In a letter issued to the school heads, the Nodal officer informed that by January 9 the school authorities will have to submit a self declaration with the local RMSA branch mentioning that they are following all rules under COTPA and that Anti-Tobacco signage boards are installed inside as well as outside the school premises.
Nodal Officer informed that a signage board bearing the text that ‘consuming and selling tobacco within the area of 100 metres is prohibited’ is to be installed outside every school while another signage with text ‘No Smoking Area- Smoking here is an offence’ is to be set up at each storey of the school buildings.....
